Nebbiolo Riserva, Daniele Conterno ‘Bussia’
dried cherry • leather • tobacco
Dried cherry and rose lead, followed by leather and a more savory edge as the wine opens. The tannins are still present but more integrated, spreading across the palate rather than building sharply, with acidity carrying the wine through a long, steady finish. There’s a sense of depth here, with layers that continue to unfold the longer it sits in the glass.
Bussia is one of the most recognized vineyard sites in Barolo and is closely associated with the Conterno family. Located in Monforte d’Alba, it sits within the more limestone-rich soils of the eastern part of the region, contributing to deeper color and a more structured profile. Its position near Cannubi, one of Barolo’s most historic vineyard sites, is often reflected in the balance between intensity and lift seen in the wine.
Bussia is what’s known as an MGA, or menzioni geografiche aggiuntive, an officially recognized vineyard site within Barolo. Because it’s one of the larger, defined sites in the region, it’s produced by a number of growers, each interpreting it a little differently. That variation from producer to producer is part of what makes Barolo so nuanced.
