Moscatel, Botani
Botani Moscatel is a dry white wine produced in the Sierras de Málaga, Spain by Bodegas Jorge Ordóñez. Unlike many Moscatel [Muscat] wines known for their sweetness, Botani is a dry, aromatic white, inspired by Málaga's historic ‘Mountain Wines’. It is made from 100% Muscat of Alexandria, an ancient and genetically unmodified grape variety, believed to have originated in Egypt and brought to Málaga by Phoenician traders 3,000 years ago. The grapes come from old, dry-farmed vines located in Almáchar and El Borge, situated in the mountainous Axarquía region, known for its steep vineyards and slate soils.
Botani Moscatel offers a unique blend of aromas and flavors, including floral notes [orange blossom, honeysuckle, roses], citrus fruits [lemon, lime, kumquat], stone fruits [peach, apricot], and sometimes hints of herbs, lychee, honey, and minerality. It's known for its refreshing acidity and a clean, dry, and often savory finish, with a medium body.
