Cabernet Franc, Peju Winery
red raspberry • violet • polished tannins
Expressive Cabernet Franc with red raspberry, black plum, and a floral lift that leans toward violet, followed by a little cracked pepper and dried sage. The palate shows bright fruit but also real structure, with tannins that feel refined rather than heavy. The long, even 2023 growing season in Napa allowed the fruit to ripen slowly, giving the wine freshness and purity while still delivering depth. Aged 18 months in French and American oak, about 40% new, which adds subtle spice and polish without overshadowing the aromatics.
Cabernet Franc has long been one of Napa Valley’s quieter success stories. In warm sites like Rutherford it develops ripe fruit while keeping the lifted aromatics and savory edge that make the grape so distinctive, which is why many winemakers love working with it both on its own and in blends.
Fun Fact: Cabernet Franc is one of the genetic parents of Cabernet Sauvignon, the result of a natural crossing with Sauvignon Blanc centuries ago.
