Pinot Noir, Shelter 'Lovely Lilly'
The husband-and-wife team of Hans-Bert and Silke Wolf are making inspired, delicate and polished Pinot Noirs in a region dominated by heavy, cumbersome, oak-and-alcohol-laden Pinot Noirs that taste, well, often not so much like Pinot Noir.
Named for the old cellar dog who passed away in 2014, the 2021 Shelter Lovely Lily is 100% Pinot Noir, known as ‘Spätburgunder’ in Germany, that expresses the delicacy and elegance of old-world Pinot Noir.
Light ruby in color, this Pinot is bursting with aromas of strawberry, cranberry, and pomegranate. The palate is polished and full of energy and precision with lively crunchy red fruit flavors and a strong mineral core.
This gorgeous, soft, lightweight Pinot Noir fis rom Baden, the region lying right over the French border with Alsace. Winemakers Hans-Bert Espe and Silke Wolf have an entire range of polished and gentle wines in this area, where it's otherwise common to make wines large and alcoholic.
