Gamay, Château de Poncié
Château de Poncié is one of the oldest and most renowned estates in Fleurie, dating back to 949 AD and producing some of the finest wines from the best terroirs in Fleurie.
At Château de Poncié, vinification must make it possible to preserve the spirit of Fleurie, without being a prisoner of tradition, with fresh and tasty wines: the harvest is partly destemmed, the fermentations are long, from 8 to 20 days with punching down and gentle and regular pumping over.
The duration of aging and the use of barrels that have already aged over time vary according to the cuvées but have a single objective: to allow the Cru to take on its full dimension by giving it more body but without exaggeration and with delicacy.
Then comes the selection stage: the cellar master selects only the best plots for the production of his two cuvées of Fleurie, Le Pré Roi and La Salomine. After a light filtration to preserve all the work from the vine to the ageing, the wines are bottled.
Cuvée 949 is made from four of the finest and very complimentary parcels of the estate: “Montgenas” bringing the fruit, “Sous le Parc” for floral notes, finesse from “La Brirette” and concentration from “Les Carcans”. This blend creates a very lovely and elegant wine, perfectly balanced with notes of blueberry and violet.
Burgundian in style, the authentic and original style of Beaujolais: no carbonic maceration, each plot vinified in small vats, with cold maceration followed by a long 8-12-day fermentation with gentle “pigeage.” Aged in oak casks and matured for 5 months in small tanks to preserve freshness. All barrels used at the domain come from Bouchard Père & Fils in Beaune, seasoned by the ageing of several vintages.
