
Bordeaux Blend, Barlow Vineyards 'Barrouge'
91% Cabernet Sauvignon/4% Merlot/4% Petit Verdot/1% Cabernet Franc
The 2017 Barrouge has a beautiful black cherry color that exhibits aromas of blackberry and cassis with hints of sweet vanilla and cocoa. The palate is complex, full of fruit flavors ranging from red cherry to black currants and ending with hints of spice. The wine finishes with concentrated but elegant tannins and with touches of coffee bean and dark chocolate flavors gained from the toasted oak.
The 2017 Barlow wines are shaping up to be an amazing vintage! The wines are being described with words like “elegant” and “great complexity of flavor.” The growing season began with a healthy amount of rainfall, followed by a mild Spring, effectively avoiding frost issues. A wave of heat kicked harvest off early, which helped 90% of the total harvest in the Napa Valley successfully came off the vine before the devastating wildfires. Luckily, Barlow Vineyards was one of the vineyards to get everything off.
